Boston Bruins Goaltender Locked In For Another Year

One piece of the puzzle for Don Sweeney is complete. Despite the limited cap space, a Jeremy Swayman contract is official. The American-born goaltender is locked up in Boston for one year and will carry a cap hit of $3.475 million.

The Boston Bruins have their guy. After seeing franchise goaltender Tuukka Rask hang up his skates for good, the future of the position was in question. However, it has been a true blessing being able to transition within the position. That dilemma got put to bed once Jeremy Swayman came into the fold. There was much promise in his game and he has looked sharp since becoming a full-time goaltender for the club. Boston has their goaltender of the present and the future. Goaltending has been a strength for the Bruins for quite some time. It was evident during their historic run this past season.

The Jeremy Swayman contract makes sense for the Bruins. A new wave of Bruins hockey is underway and the club is getting younger. Swayman fits the mould of the next wave. With David Pastrnak locked in, the goaltender of the future was the next priority.

The spotlight was on Linus Ullmark this past season and rightfully so. He was stellar in net and is the frontrunner to win the Vezina Trophy. Not to mention, he scored a goalie goal. But Jeremy Swayman was every bit as good as his counterpart. Even with getting injured at the beginning of the season, his numbers were respectable. Swayman finished the season with a 2.27 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. In addition, his 24 goals saved above expected was eighth among all goalies. Boston has a good one and it’s great for the present and future.
